You can obtain a burning permit through NC Forest Service’s website or at Wingate Town Hall at:101 W Wilson StreetWingate, NC 28174
However, burning permits will only be issued outside the city limits as burning outside of a grill is not permitted within town limits. Before filling out an open burning permit application, please familiarize yourself with Air Quality regulations related to outdoor burning.

In order to reserve the Community Center, we need to receive a facility reservation form in addition to the full payment (deposit and fees). We will not add a reservation to our calendar without full payment. Deposits will not be used to hold spots. The deposit is required in the event that damage repair or cleaning is necessary. Reservations are not required if the space is available when you are at Wingate Park. However, if a party has reserved the space in advance, reservations take precedence. If you’re hosting an event and you’d like to guarantee the space will be available during a certain time, it’s best to make an advanced reservation. Visit our Facility Reservations page to do so.
Permits are issued by Union County; however, before any permits can be obtained, Wingate must give zoning approval for any properties within the town’s limits or extraterritorial jurisdiction. Submit a zoning permit application using our Zoning Portal.
The Town of Wingate, based on recent changes in legislation, no longer issues business licenses with the exception of beer and wine licenses. However, zoning approval is required for all businesses. Please submit a zoning permit application using our Zoning Portal. Beer and wine licenses must still be renewed on an annual basis. Renewal information will be sent to license holders prior to April 30 of each year.
Leaves can be bagged in clear plastic or opaque bags and set out with regular garbage collection each week throughout the year. Additionally, Public Works offers a leaf vacuuming service typically November through February of each year. Visit our Solid Waste Collection page for more information and vacuuming guidelines.
Bins are provided by Waste Connections, our contracted waste hauler, but they are delivered by our Public Works department. To request a new bin for replacement of a damaged bin, please call Customer Service at 704-233-4411. Bins will need to be completely emptied prior to being changed out.
Bulky items may be picked up depending on what the items is. If it’s an acceptable item, you will need to notify Customer Service at 704-233-4411 so we can make sure the driver is aware. These items will be collected with a different truck but on the same day as regular pickup service. The general rule is that appliances, items with metal, or items over 4 feet in length will not be collected. Please see our Solid Waste Collection page for more information regarding acceptable items.
The Town of Wingate offers water, sewer, garbage and recycling services to customers within the service district. To determine if your address is within our service district, please reach out to Customer Service at 704-233-4411. In order to establish services, please complete the Utility Service Application (PDF). A copy of the lease agreement (rental properties) or deed will be required along with photo ID for all responsible parties. All tenants or owners listed on required documents are concerned responsible parties and will be required to establish service. A credit check will be performed to determine if a deposit will be required. Application fees differ depending on the number of applicants. Service requests are only completed during normal business hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If you have a water leak, it is best to contact a plumber in order to have the leak repaired as quickly as possible to reduce the amount of water being used and billed. Depending on the type and extent of the leak, they can be very costly. For this reason, the town will consider adjustments to the sewer portion of the utility bill in cases where the water did not go into the sewer system. The customer who is requesting the adjustment shall provide the town documentation that in fact a leak did exist, that the leak was sufficient in size to use the excessive amount of water, that the leak did not allow water to enter the sewer system, and that the leak has been repaired. Proper documentation includes a receipt from a plumber or a store receipt that details the list of parts used to make the repair.

In order to disconnect services, a Utility Service Disconnect Application (PDF) is required by all account holders. Service requests are only completed during normal business hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Utility deposits are held on the account for the life of the account. Once an account is finalized, the full deposit amount is applied to any existing account balance. If a balance still remains, that amount will be billed for. If a credit balance exists, we will send a deposit refund check to the mailing address on file. It is important to update your forward mailing address via the Utility Service Disconnect Application (PDF) when services are canceled.
