When is Town Hall open?
Town Hall is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm except for the following holidays:

How much water can leak from a small hole or drip?
Water customers are constantly seeking ways to keep monthly bills down and help water rates to remain low.  One of the most effective ways of accomplishing this is by checking periodically for leaks and repairing the leak once identified.  You can also contact the Town of Wingate for assistance in helping to determine if you may have a leak.

How much water can come from a small leak or drip from everyday use?

  • 1 bath = 42 gallons; 30 baths = 1,260 gallons
  • 1 shower = 17 gallons; 30 showers = 510 gallons
  • 1 load of laundry = 45 gallons; 20 loads = 900 gallons
  • 1 toilet flush = 7 gallons; 10 flushes/day = 2,100 gallons per month
  • A leak from a hole 1/16″ in diameter = 11,160 gallons per month
  • A leak from a hole 1/8″ in diameter = 95,976 gallons per month
  • A leak from a hole 3/16″ in diameter = 261,144 gallons per month
  • A leak from a hole 1/4″ in diameter = 463,512 gallons per month
  • Leaking faucet @ 100 drips per minute = 350 gallons per month
  • Leaking toilet @ 1/2 gallons per minute = 21,600 gallons per month.
  • Watering garden or lawn for 2 hours daily @ 5 gallons per minute = 18,000 gallons per month
  • Watering garden or lawn for 2 hours daily @ 10 gallons per minute = 36,000 gallons per month
  • Unattended water hose for 9 hours @ 10 gallons per minute = 5,400 gallons

When is garbage and recycling picked up?
Garbage is picked up every Thursday.  Recyclables are picked up every other Thursday.  Garbage collection services are moved to Friday any week there is a major holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, July 4th).  Refer to the Wingate Events Calendar for more specific information regarding pickup of garbage and recycle.

It is recommended that carts are placed at the road on Wednesday evening as pickup usually begins early Thursday morning.

Who do I call to report problems with my garbage and recycling service?
To report any problems with your garbage service you may call Waste Connections directly at (704) 694-6900.  If you are unable to make contact with Waste Connections, please call Wingate Town Hall at (704) 233-4411 during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 9 AM until 5 PM).


How do I report a street light that is malfunctioning?
To report a street light that is malfunctioning, you may either call Wingate Town Hall at 704-233-4411 and report it to someone there, or you may report it via the internet.  To report it via the internet, click here.  This link will take you to the Outdoor Lighting Repair Form on the Duke Energy website.  Complete the form and press send.  Make sure to include detailed, accurate directions to the street light so that the repair crew can locate the correct, malfunctioning light.


What is the number to call when I do not have an emergency, but need to speak to a police officer?
The office number to the police department is 704-233-1697.  Call this number anytime you have a question or concern that is not an emergency.  You may find that there is no one in the office when you call.  If this is the case, you may leave a message, call Town Call at 704-233-4411, or call the non-emergency number for Union County Communications at 704-289-1591.
